Central Serous Retinopathy- Acute vs. Chronic

This paper analyses various demographic and lifestyle factors that lead to the advancement of Central Serous Retinopathy from its Acute to Chronic Stage. The research is being conducted in three phases. Firstly, I collected and analyzed the demographic data of 152 high-risk patients based on their age, gender, ethnicity, professional life, lifestyle, types of distortions in visual field, and treatments taken, to discern patterns associated with the chronic and acute forms of the disease. Secondly, I evaluated the efficacy of various treatments available for Chronic CSR. Lastly, I am currently exploring the latest developments on the usage of Artificial Intelligence to predict Chronic CSR through data and OCT readings of the retina

Attributes of a Great Ophthalmologist & Surgeon

This research paper addresses key characteristics of ophthalmologists and surgeons that help transform them from good to great. By providing a detailed overview of key qualities such as Patient History Taking, Mental and Physical Health and fitness of Surgeons, Self Education, Empathy etc, this paper is a product of discussions with 19 ophthalmologists and Prof. Dr. Natarajan’s experience in the field. The 4691-word paper was completed in a span of 5 months.

Biological Age of Eye

This research displays the accelerated worsening impact of electronic screens on children and adults in the post-covid era by estimating the actual age of the human eye using its biological features. I implemented and trained a model that uses convolutional neural networks (CNNs) to attain a remarkable accuracy rate of 90% by utilizing a diverse dataset of 10,000 images of human faces that takes into account ethnicity, age group, lighting condition, presence or absence of spectacles, and eye disorders. Following careful preprocessing, where the fundamental dataset is standardized and its picture quality is improved, the actual age of the eye is estimated using features such as iris size, pupil size, shape of the eye, wrinkles, dropping of eyelids, and position of the eyebrows. The paper will be presented at the INCOFT 2023 Conference, India.

Visvue is essentially a digital version of the Amsler grid available for smartphones. Visvue is useful for individuals to monitor their own vision at home and detect any changes over time. App has features like the ability to perform self-tests, record and track the results, and set reminders for regular testing. This can be a useful tool for individuals with conditions like macular degeneration, where early detection of vision changes is crucial.

The Amsler grid is a basic visual field test that opticians use to detect vision problems resulting from damage to the macula (the central part of the retina) or the optic nerve. This tool is named after Marc Amsler, who lived from 1891 to 1968. He was a Swiss ophthalmologist, or eye doctor, who first described the tool in 1947. This grid is a pattern that resembles a checkerboard. When your vision is normal, you should be able to see all areas on the grid, and all lines should appear straight.

Internships

Balaji Hospital- Intern

Balaji Hospital is a multi-specialty hospital in Jodhpur, endeavoring to provide total cardiology, cardiovascular, and thoracic care at quite an affordable cost, such that everyone, irrespective of their socio-economic background, can avail of the most modern, surgical & and non-surgical technologies and convenient treatment modalities.

I was stationed at the patient walk-in counter for 3 months and helped the hospital staff digitize patients' paper admission forms. I rotated across various departments of the hospital to understand the operational workflow. Completed rotation in 3 departments- Ophthalmology, Radiology, and Neurology.

I worked on health issues of marginalised communities and coordinated with Sambhali Trust to establish a dedicated “General Physician Chair” to help serve the medical needs of Gender Minorities.

Aditya Jyot Eye Hospital- Research Intern

Research Intern under the mentorship of Prof. Dr. S. Natarajan, a Padma-Shree awardee and world renowned Vitreo-Retinal
Surgeon.

Worked on 2 research papers, developed Ocular Trauma surveys to collect data such as source of trauma, treatment taken, orbital fracture, and demographics from 459 patients. Shadowed doctors and created presentations on ocular diseases that were presented in various international conferences.

SPARC- Sun Pharmaceuticals- Intern

Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Sun Pharma) is the fourth largest specialty generic pharmaceutical company in the world with global revenues of over US$ 5.1 billion.

I was the Youngest Intern at Sun Pharma Advanced Research Company(SPARC), where I researched the efficacy of a skin cancer cream, and learned various analytical and formulation techniques, including HPLC (High Performance Liquid
Chromatography) and gas chromatography. Subm
itted project report on different machines used for drug analysis and formulation.
